About the Company
Adidas began as a small sports shoe factory in Bavaria, Germany. Its founder, Adolf “Adi” Dassler made his mother’s kitchen as a make-shift area for designing and creating sports shoes during the latter end of the World War I. He was joined by his brother, Rudolf, and two of them established the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory.
The venture went successful and they were able to sponsor the top runner Jesse Owens. This took place when Adi went to the Olympic Village in 1936 to convince Owens to wear the spikes he had designed for the said sprinter. Owens managed to win four gold Olympic medals and expectedly, this served the Dassler brothers well as they became popular in the sportswear industry.
From then on, the company grew but had a few ups and downs down the stretch. Adi and Rudolf separated in 1947, where Rudolf formed his own brand and factory which we now call Puma. Meanwhile, Adi renamed his company to Adidas in 1949.
Apparently, Adidas’ first rival in the industry was Puma and it was fierce as Adi left a bad taste in Rudolf’s mouth as he had turned his brother in to the Americans during the World War II. The sibling rivalry torn the town apart as consumers weren’t sure which brand to patronize. Up until their deaths, they never had the chance to reconcile and straighten out their issues with each other.
As of 2012, Adidas is the largest sporting goods manufacturer and retailer in the world in terms of revenue under the leadership of CEO Herbert Hainer. The company has multiple products and brands to offer including their designer brands like those made my Stella McCartney.

Job Application Tips
Having been a major player in the footwear industry, Adidas may be receiving hundreds of applications from job seekers throughout the country. So the selection process may take longer than expected in some cases like possibly 2-3 weeks for a managerial position while 1 week for a retail position.
When hiring an applicant, Adidas conducts a couple of one-on-one interviews with a phone interview as part of the initial screening. So you will have to prepare for this call through which you can introduce yourself, state your desired salary and expectations. Passing this initial step may earn you a ticket to another interview with a manager.
If you pass, make sure to dress appropriately and make it known to the interviewers that you’re passionate about what you do. You can do this by being attentive to their questions and answering them as articulate as you can. You should also keep the conversation light with the interviewer so you won’t have a hard time showing your great social skills.
You should also be able to demonstrate your knowledge of the company and its products by telling them the list of your favorite sporting goods by Adidas. Or, show your deep interest in sports, fashion, fitness and shoes. The tip is to keep yourself updated with the latest products.
Basic Interview Questions
- What are your favorite products in our brand?
- Would you wear an Adidas sportswear? Why?
- What would be the best thing to do if the customer found out that we don’t have the right shoe size for him or her?
- How would you handle a difficult situation with a customer?
