Advance Auto Parts started in 1932, when company founder Arthur Taubman acquires three Advance Stores from Pep Boys. Two of the first stores were located in Roanoke, Virginia, while the third one was located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
In 1938, the company expanded outside the state of Virginia for the first time when it opened a store in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This was also the year when the company began selling toys for the holidays.
