About the Company
Citizens Bank was founded in 1828 in Providence, Rhode Island. Its first name was High Street Bank but it was changed to Citizens Savings Bank after the company received the state’s legislature that allowed the establishment of its second charter in 1871, under also which the company has acquired the Citizens Trust Company.
This business acquisition gave Citizens Bank some room for expansion. After its branch opened in RI in 1828, it has grown into 29 more branches throughout the state. This then led to the foundation of the Citizens Financial Group, as its holding firm in 1954.
Citizens Bank only became a mutual savings bank in 1985. It has soon expanded its locations all over Massachusetts one year later. But as with any expanding companies, the banking firm’s full operations was transferred to Royal Bank of Scotland in 1988, making it a British-owned company.
Under RBS, Citizens Bank was able to acquire other firms in New England, New Jersey, Penn, and Delaware. Among the many acquisitions during the early 2000’s, it was the retail banking subsidiary of Mellon Financial Corp that was the highlight.
Today, Citizens Financial Group is crowned as the 12 largest banking institutions in the United States. It has over $127 billion worth of assets employing approximately 18,400 employees. It also now has over 1,300 bank locations nationwide.

Job Application Tips
In order to help you ace your interview with Citizens Bank, you’ll need these tips. The company is based in Rhode Island, where you must also be willing to work or relocated should be hired to fill in a corporate position.
The first part of the pre-employment candidacy involves a four-part test online. This test aims at gauging your skills in various subjects such as customer service, numeric skills, and communication skills. If you passed the exam, expect to receive a phone call from a representative who’d likely ask you for an interview.
Once you said yes to the invitation, make sure to prepare casual business attire to achieve that personality and professional look. Remember it’s a banking firm that you’ll be working for, so the environment is quite formal as you’re going to deal with business people most times of the day.
The proceeding stages of the hiring process should include a series of one-on-one interviews with a manager. In the final interview though, the panel of interviewers may be joined by an HR officer who might ask you hypothetical questions. Few examples of these potential questions are as follows:
- Describe your previous experience in the financial services industry, if any.
- What is your edge among other competitors?
- What are your favorite subjects in school?
- Which among our financial products do you find most helpful?
- Do you know the difference between a savings account and a checking account? Explain.
- How do you deal with an unsatisfied customer?
