About the Company
Cousins Subs was conceived out of Bill Specht satisfactory experience with eating submarine sandwiches in Milwaukee. Specht came from New Jersey where sandwiches taste like heaven. The founder moved to Milwaukee toward the latter end of the 1960’s and found a decent job.
However, his dissatisfaction with the sandwiches and with his job, he found himself wanting to establish a fast food restaurant that will introduce tasty sandwiches to the taste buds of the locals, including himself. Luckily for him, at the time, there were no other major sandwich chain stores around.
He grabbed the opportunity to be the first to build a sandwich parlor in his new town together with his cousin, Jim Sheppard. Hence, the name of the shop Cousins Subs (Submarine Sandwiches). The first shop opened in June 19, 1972 at 60th Street Silver Spring Drive, and has since become the hottest sub parlor in town.
The cousins made sure to become partners with the best local baker to create their own bread instead of outsourcing it to a manufacturer. This quality bread was matched with a great recipe that has taken the city by storm. As a result, the cousins also have come up with a slogan “Better Bread. Better Subs” putting emphasis on the quality of bread as a primary factor to judging an excellent, tasty sub sandwich.
Cousins sub bread is always made with fresh ingredients and baked fresh all day. This has been the shop’s key to success combined with the excellent customer service provided by their team members. The company just aims at making every customer feel better about how their day is going so far by making freshly baked sandwiches.
So if you want to work for a submarine sandwich shop, it is important that you have passion for food and customer service. This is especially true if you are going to work as a sandwich artist because you essentially live by the shop’s slogan and statement.
As of 2014, Cousins Subs has over 124 locations outside of Milwaukee such as in Arizona, Florida, and Minnesota. Majority of these locations are sold to franchisees but each store offers the same menu such as sandwiches, cookies, soups, French fries and chips, rice krispies, and bread.
