About the Company
Dillons began as the J.S. Dillon Cash Food Market in 1913. The first store was opened in Hutchinson, Kansas, and it was owned and operated by John S. Dillon, who was the son of a Presbyterian preacher and a carpenter by trade.

Dillon and Sons Stores Company in 1921, just a few years after Dillon’s two sons Ray and Clyde came back from serving a tour of duty with the 35th Division in World War I. When Dillon Companies Inc. became a subsidiary of The Kroger Company in 1983, it became clear that the merger was meant to happen.
